According to AppleInsider, Apple has been awarded a new patent that allows users to automatically unlock their iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other devices when they wear the Apple Glass.Users don’t have to repeatedly unlock the iPhone, iPad, Mac or other devices. They don’t even have to look at the phone. Instead, they can use the device through Apple Glass for authentication. In fact, Apple originally filed for the patent in 2018.
Many electronic devices restrict access to various functions based on authentication of the user’s identity. When using multiple devices at the same time, the process of unlocking each device individually can delay user access and reduce the quality of the user experience. Apple’s proposed solution is that authenticated devices that users can use as headsets. The headset can then detect nearby devices, determine that the device is locked and issue authentication data when it is ready to be accessed. Based on the authentication data, the user is identified as authenticated by nearby devices, thus unlocking, and the user can then access the functionality of nearby devices.Apple advises users to authenticate: Holding up an iPhone or iPad while wearing Apple Glass may limit use;If the user does see the device, Apple Glass can send a code to unlock the iPhone completely.Similarly, glasses-wearing users might automatically lock the iPad when they look away. It will also prevent anyone from accessing the device just because it happens to be near the user. Therefore, when the user is using the iPhone, iPad and other devices, this fast unlocking solution helps to improve the AR/VR user experience.
In addition, Apple’s new patent documents reveal that the company is working on a unique case for the iPhone that can be used to charge AirPods and other accessories directly.
