iPhone 15 is expected to upgrade to 8G storage–What we know so far

Time doesn’t stop, so we’re already looking forward to the iPhone 15, even though the iPhone 14 has only just been released.

The iPhone 15 will likely arrive in late 2023, unless Apple uses a wildcard by using the “14S” name or something similar. But that seems unlikely, as we’ve heard leaks and rumors using the iPhone 15 name.

Yep, that’s right – pre-release information about the upcoming iPhone has been released ahead of time. That’s not entirely surprising, as Apple’s leaks sometimes happen years before a product is released.

To give you a (very early) look at what the upcoming phone and its sibling series will look like, we’ve rounded up all the news, rumors, and predictions here. Expect this article to see many updates between late 2022 and September 2023.

iPhone 15 release date

We haven’t heard any rumors of an iPhone 15 release date or release date, but that’s to be expected — they rarely happen more than a month before the launch event itself.

For the iPhone 14, the event took place on September 7, and three of the four phones will go on sale a week later on September 16 (the iPhone 14 Plus on October 7). Apple typically chooses the first or second week of September for its launch, usually a Tuesday, although it occasionally chooses a Wednesday event.

In 2023, that means September 5th or 12th is quite likely (both Tuesdays), although 6th and 13th are also possible.

iPhone 15 price

Again, we haven’t heard many leaks or rumours when it comes to pricing, but the iPhone 14 lineup is slightly more expensive than its iPhone 13 counterparts. This could be repeated for the iPhone 15 in 2023.

While there are four members of the iPhone 14 series, here are the prices for the cheapest and most expensive options:

iPhone 14 128GB: $799/£849/AU$1,399
iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB: $1,599 / £1,749 / AU$2,769

That’s all there is to the current range pricing, although there are obviously many device and storage options in between those points.

As for the iPhone 15 series, the only price rumors so far point to the iPhone 15 Ultra – a new phone that could replace the iPhone 15 Pro Max – starting at $1,199 (probably around £1,309 / AU$2,099 based on Apple’s typical price) )at best.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1,099 / £1,199 / AU$1,899, so if accurate, the next model is at least $100 more expensive.

iPhone 15 news, rumors and leaks

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the iPhone 15, albeit with a long time span, so it’s unclear what’s still accurate and what’s old news.

Some of this seems obvious – a report says Apple is working on a 3nm A17 Bionic chip for the iPhone 15. Given that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max use the A16 Bionic, and the 17 is one higher than the 16, we can guess anyway.

However, the iPhone 14 uses the older A15 Bionic chip, also seen in the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, and another report suggests that this new trend – non-Pro phones using older chipsets – is likely will continue. This is a statement we have heard many times.

Stick with the chipset, and it seems likely that Qualcomm will offer a 5G modem again. The Snapdragon X70 looks sure to be chosen, offering better performance than the Snapdragon X65 in the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 15 could see the expected changes in 2023. The European Union has told Apple that it must add a USB-C charging port to iPhones starting in 2024, but many fans think Apple will adopt the charging standard earlier in 2023, instead – and there is at least one leak pointing in that direction.

That being said, some fans are hoping Apple won’t ditch its own Lightning port anytime soon, even suggesting the company could launch a completely portless iPhone first.

An important feature of the iPhone 14 Pro is “Dynamic Island,” a fancy marketing name for the “punch hole” front-facing camera that Apple is using, and leaks suggest that non-Pro iPhone 15 models could also get this.

We’ve also heard from elsewhere recently that every iPhone 15 model will feature Dynamic Island — but the standard phones and the iPhone 15 Plus will still be stuck with 60Hz screens.

Contrary to Dynamic Island’s claims, however, some believe that the iPhone 15 series could use under-display cameras that sit below the phone’s screen to ensure it doesn’t take up display space. However, here at TechRadar, we’re not too sure about that.

For past generations of iPhones, Apple has divided the product line into “standard” and “pro” series, with the latter bringing more features than the former; within each range, the only major difference is screen size. But on the iPhone 15, the Pro models could be even more broken, as it sounds like the “Pro Max” is continuing to evolve.

A big leaker has hinted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will actually be called the iPhone 15 Ultra — following Apple’s adoption of the suffix elsewhere — and will bring more features than the iPhone 15 Pro.

A key example listed is the camera department, and while the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to retain the telephoto zoom lens of the 14 Pro, the iPhone 15 Ultra is rumored to feature a periscope lens for further zoom, possibly around 5x. In fact, we’ve heard it so many times now from various sources that it sounds likely.

We’ve also heard from leaker LeaksApplePro(opens in new tab) that the iPhone 15 Ultra may be made of titanium, which should be lighter and stronger than the stainless steel used on the current Pro models.

All of this means that if you want the best iPhone of 2023, you’ll probably also have to opt for the big screen, which is sure to disappoint fans of Apple’s 6.1-inch phone.
