Huawei P50 cannot be used for 5G, the root cause is the blockade in the United States, and the integrated 5G of Snapdragon 888 itself is also useless, but the main limitation is more than this. The limitation on components is most likely to be related to 5G radio frequency, especially filters.

According to previous analysis, the wave device is mainly divided into two types: Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) and Bulk Acoustic Waves (BAW).

Among them, due to various reasons such as performance and technology, the acoustic bulk wave filter (BAW) has become the first choice for 5G mobile phones.

Data show that in the BAW market, Broadcom (AVAGO) in the United States currently accounts for 87% of the market share, while Qorvo, another semiconductor company in the United States, also has an 8% market share.

In addition, SAW is also monopolized by the United States and Japan. In 2018, the global SAW filter market was almost monopolized by Japanese manufacturers. Among them, Murata accounted for 47% of the market share, and TDK Toden Chemical accounted for 21%.

This means that the main technology of the core filter in the 5G radio frequency chip comes from the United States, and it is precisely this step that Huawei cannot bypass, which leads to the 5G defect of the Huawei P50 series.

Judging from the current situation, 5G radio frequency is severely stuck, but Huawei and the domestic industry chain are also making rapid progress in solving 5G radio frequency.

The news broke that Huawei’s flagship Mate50 at the end of the year will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 898 chip, and the 5G version will be available in the second quarter of 2022, and it may be early.
