Samsung’s played around quite a bit with phone names recently. First, it changed the naming convention for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines by jumping from 10 to 20. Then, it dropped the Samsung Galaxy Fold name when it launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Now, it looks like it could change up the naming formula for its other foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip. According to a rumor stemming from Let’s Go Digital, Samsung could launch the next Flip as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.
If this ends up being true, that would mean there would be no Galaxy Z Flip 2. It would skip straight to three.
Realistically, this makes a lot of sense. Technically, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip device is the third in the line, with the first being the Galaxy Z Flip and the second being the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. Second, a name change would make it so the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 wouldn’t launch right next to a Galaxy Z Flip 2. They both would be “3” which would be less confusing for consumers.
Whereas, this is just a rumor, for now, so don’t take it to the bank quite yet. It seems perfectly plausible, though.
We hope Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 (if that’s what it ends up being) as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 to launch in July this year.
