In the third quarter of 2020, Xiaomi returned to third place in the world. Just two quarters later, Xiaomi has climbed one place again.
Recently, the four authoritative market survey agencies Canalys, IDC, Strategy Analytics, and Counterpoint have successively released statistical reports on the global smartphone market for Q2 2021. Although the figures of the four companies are slightly different, they all point to Xiaomi’s global market share promotion to second, surpassing Apple and second only to Samsung.
On July 16, Canalys’ report was released first. At that time, Lei Jun shared this “great news” for the first time: Xiaomi’s market share was 17%, and the sales of smartphones surpassed Apple, ranking second in the world.
Canalys said that in the face of the tight global supply chain, all manufacturers are trying their best to ensure the supply of parts, but Xiaomi has set its sights on the next goal: to replace Samsung and become the world’s number one manufacturer.
Data from another organization, StrategyAnalytics, shows that Xiaomi ranks among the top two in the world for the first time in history. Its global smartphone shipments are 52.8 million units and its market share is 16.8%.
At the same time, IDC also released the Q2 global smartphone market share ranking in 2021: Xiaomi’s mobile phone sales surpassed Apple, and it was promoted to the world’s second place for the first time. Xiaomi shipped 53.1 million mobile phones in Q2, an increase of 86.6% year-on-year, and the global smartphone market share reached 16.9%.
Counterpoint pointed out in the report that Xiaomi Q2 shipped more than 53 million smartphones, making it the world’s second-largest smartphone brand for the first time.
Lei Jun previously stated that this is an achievement achieved by all Xiaomi employees and Mi Fans working together. For the first time, Xiaomi has become the number two in the world. This is a fantastic achievement and a major milestone in the history of Xiaomi’s development! On August 16 this year, the tenth anniversary of the release of Xiaomi mobile phones will soon be ushered in, which was overjoyed to receive such good news at this time.
Lei Jun said frankly that second place in the world means greater challenges and greater responsibilities for Xiaomi. Xiaomi stands at this height for the first time, and it is bound to face a fierce and anxious tug-of-war. Compared with the current celebration, he is, even more, looking forward to Xiaomi’s ability to truly secure second place in the world as soon as possible.
