Someone has tested the phone called Sony Xperia 1 III a lot, putting the new flagship up against strong rivals such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Xperia 1 III was the clear winner in both of those speed tests; however, this time around it had to contend with the gaming powerhouse that is the Asus ROG Phone 5. Whereas many would have expected this to be a tight race or even an outright win for the ROG Phone 5, once again the Xperia 1 III came up trumps and by a considerable margin.
That person made sure the phones were set on an equal footing, with both having Snapdragon 888 processors, 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM, and fast UFS 3.1 storage. The Sony Xperia 1 III has a 4K display and offers a 120 Hz refresh rate while the Asus ROG Phone 5 has an FHD+ screen and delivers up to a 144 Hz refresh rate. First off were tests for booting and fingerprint unlocking, which left the Xperia 1 III leading by two points to zero at the end of this round.
Next up was the opening apps speed test and benchmark runs, where the Xperia 1 III wiped the floor with the ROG Phone 5. By the end of this second round, the score stood at 18 points vs. 8 points in favor of the Sony device. The Asus phone was faster than its rival in Geekbench and produced a higher FPS rate in 3DMark Wild Life, but surprisingly the gaming-centric smartphone lost ground against the Sony Xperia 1 III in game launching.
Finally, that guy went through the RAM management test by checking which apps had been force closed by the smartphone. While the Sony Xperia 1 III and Asus ROG Phone 5 were evenly matched here for the most part, there was a last point to be had for the former device as the latter had closed the game Among Us when checked. The overall result was 21 points for the Xperia 1 III and just 8 points for the ROG Phone 5, totally confirming that Sony’s 2021 flagship isn’t just all about its great cameras and spectacular display screen.
