The new iMac has a completely new design and a series of eye-catching color options. The overall volume of the iMac has been reduced by more than 50% and is now only 11.5mm thin.
The iMac uses a 24-inch 4.5K display with a narrower frame. It still has a large chin at the bottom, but the rear of the display is now flat, rather than curved. Its design is only slightly larger than the previous 21.5-inch model and provides True Tone and anti-reflective coating.
The 24-inch iMac is the first iMac to use Apple’s own Mac custom Silicon processor M1 chip after using Intel chips for many years. CPU performance is 85% faster than the previous 21.5-inch iMac. GPU performance is 2 times faster than the strongest discrete graphics card in the previous 21.5-inch models.
Apple also promised much-needed updates to the iMac’s camera and microphone so that you can look better during video calls. It now has a 1080p resolution and a larger camera sensor.
The brand new iMac also has a new magnetic power cord, which sounds a lot like the old MagSafe cord. It can be connected to the back. Ethernet can be connected to the power Dock and transmitted through the same cable. There are four USB-C ports on the high-end models on the back of the machine, two of which will support Thunderbolt. The basic model has an 8GB memory and 256GB solid-state drive.
Due to the efficiency of the M1 chip, the iMac uses a completely redesigned cooling system. The new model has two small fans and replaces the cumbersome thermal system of the previous iMac.
The iMac now uses a studio-quality beamforming three-microphone array and a more powerful six-speaker system that supports spatial audio with Dolby Atmos.
In addition to the new iMac, Apple also introduced a new keyboard, mouse, and trackpad, with corresponding colors. There is a Touch ID button for login on the keyboard.
The price starts at $1,299.
