Apple isn’t planning to release any new Macs for the rest of the year, with all planned releases expected in the first quarter of 2023, including updated versions of the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Mac Pro, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said today.
Apple is rumored to release new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros in November with the unannounced M2 Pro and “M2” Max chips, but Apple is rumored to release new laptops next year.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman wrote that Apple decided to wait until next year to release new Macs, including the rumored MacBook Pro this month. “I’ve been told that Apple is targeting the first quarter of 2023 to launch upgraded models, including the M2-based 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros,” Gurman said today.
During the company’s latest earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple’s “product lineup has been finalized in advance of the holiday,” which could hint at no new product launches this year as Apple prepares for the holiday. Apple CFO Luca Maestri provided a more decisive confirmation, saying: “We are facing a very challenging situation compared to last year, driven by the launch of our newly designed M1 MacBook Pro and the associated channel fill. ,” Gurman noted in Power today.
According to a post on the Korean blog Naver account “yeux1122”, citing supply chain sources, the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models won’t be available until early next year, around the March time frame. The account has a mixed record, with supply chain activity related to the updated MacBook Pro launching next year as planned, rather than November.
Historically, Apple has introduced new Macs several times in November, including the first 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 and the first three Macs with the M1 chip in 2020, adding to the idea of a new MacBook Pro model imminent reliability.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said he expects the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros to be released in the “near future” and “over the next few months” as rumored to launch in November to follow past precedent. During the company’s latest earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple’s “product lineup has been finalized in advance of the holiday,” which could hint at no new product launches this year as Apple prepares for the holiday.
As previously reported, Apple continues to test the Apple chip “Mac Pro” with a configuration that includes 24 CPU cores (including 16 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores), 76 graphics cores, and 192GB of memory. The Mac Pro is expected to be powered by “M2 Ultra” and “M2Extreme” chips with at least twice or four times the performance of the M2 Max chip and is expected to be released alongside the refreshed MacBook Pro next year.
