According to The Elec, Apple is working with LG to develop foldable OLED display panels and ultra-thin glass covers for future iPad and MacBook models.
LG Display has a strong track record in foldable OLED displays, having previously supplied the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold with a 13.3-inch display panel.
The Elec’s claim seems to be in line with a recent report from display analyst Ross Young that Apple is working on a full-screen foldable notebook with a 20-inch display.
It is reported that this Apple device will form a new product category, and is a dual-purpose product, which can be used as a notebook with a full-size keyboard when folded; when unfolded, it can be used as a display, and can be used externally keyboard. Young added that the new device will have 4K or higher resolutions.
According to Young’s description, the new device is a “foldable notebook,” but it now looks like it could be a foldable iPad Pro as well, as reports from The Elec state that the display panel in development is for both tablets and tablets notebook.
The new product is expected to be released later, possibly as early as 2025.
