Google today announced the launch of Android 12L, an Android 12 system optimized for tablets and foldable devices.
Android 12L will optimize the system UI to make it easy to use on the big screen-including notifications, quick settings, lock screen, overview, home screen, etc.
On large-screen devices, the notification bar utilizes space by displaying quick settings and notifications in a new two-column layout.
And the lock screen also uses a larger two-column layout to highlight notifications and clocks, and optimizes system applications such as “Settings”.
The new system can also make interactive operations on the large screen more convenient. For example, the lock screen pattern and PIN code bar on the tablet can now be displayed independently on one side of the screen for easy access.
And users only need to tap the other side of the screen to move the PIN/pattern control to that side.
For foldable devices, Google optimized the home screen and optimized the animation of folding and expanding transitions, allowing users to seamlessly switch from a single screen to a larger expanded screen.
Enhance continuity while retaining their personalized choices.
Android 12L adds a new taskbar, which makes it easier to start and switch applications instantly.
With the help of gestures, users can use the task bar more quickly, such as drag and drop to enter the split screen mode and swipe up to go home.
In the gesture operation, the quick switching gesture allows the user to flip through the most recent applications. Users can also long press to show or hide the taskbar at any time.
Running apps through split screen is a very common multitasking method on large screen devices. In Android 12L, Google makes split screen mode easier to read and use.
Users can now drag and drop their favorite apps into the split screen directly from the taskbar, or they can also use the new “split screen” operation in the overview to start split screen mode with one click.
Google has improved the user mailbox interface by allowing OEMs to provide a variety of customization options through overriding configuration.
For example, mobile phone manufacturers can now freely configure the App aspect ratio, or apply rounded corners to the App window and adjust the transparency of the status bar.
In order to make it easier for users to find the best app experience on tablets, foldable devices and Chrome OS devices, Google has also optimized the Play Store to highlight apps optimized for their devices.
Google plans to release the official version of Android 12L in early 2022, in order to strive for the next wave of Android 12 tablets, Chromebooks and foldable devices.
