There’s a new Samsung Galaxy S23 leak to report: This time images allegedly taken with the S23 Ultra have been compared to similar snapshots taken on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Google Pixel 7 Pro.
This comes from the famous salesman who originally posted a series of three zoomed-in photos of pumpkins without naming the phones involved, asking for a vote on which image was the best.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra won the vote, beating out this year’s Ultra version and Google’s latest flagship — but it’s up to you to decide which one you prefer. Photos apparently taken by the Galaxy S23 Ultra phone do look the most detailed and vivid.
Camera specs
We’ve previously seen another photo from the same leaker, allegedly from a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, so it looks like Ice Universe may have gotten an early look at a unit — the phone isn’t expected to launch until February 2023.
That means Samsung still has plenty of time to tweak the photo-optimization algorithms on the S23 phones and make sure pictures and videos look the best they can (in fact, this usually continues after the phone is released).
We expect the Ultra version of the Galaxy S23 to feature a triple-lens rear camera, which isn’t too different from the one on the Galaxy S22 Ultra – although rumor has it that low-light photo capabilities will be significantly upgraded.
cameras keep on improving
The best phones of 2022 — including the iPhone 14 Pro and Google Pixel 7 Pro — can take stunning photos, and you’ll hardly believe the quality of those photos when the camera is first mounted on the back of a smartphone.
However, these cameras keep getting better, thanks to improvements in two areas: hardware (the actual sensors installed inside the phone) and software (how the phone interprets and processes the information it gets from the camera).
Perhaps best known for its algorithms for taking beautiful photos even with non-high-end camera sensors, other phone makers are busy improving their core code, including Samsung.
That’s why we’ll have to reserve judgment on the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera until we actually test it — the camera specs alone don’t tell us the full story, even with the main sensor bumping up to the 100MP mark.
