The leak gate of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 series has opened up with renders of the Galaxy S23 and S23+. Today, the missing member is in the spotlight – we’re talking about the Galaxy S23 Ultra, of course.
As it turns out, Samsung’s highest-end non-foldable device for next year finally looks just like its predecessor. Seriously, it’s almost impossible to tell that this isn’t an S22 Ultra just by looking at these renders.
However – it is not. In the S23 Ultra, the main three camera circle “islands” seem to protrude slightly, while the other two protrude significantly less. The front also looks flatter, so the radius of the curve has been tightened even further—the Ultra, which was originally boxy like the Note, is now slightly boxier.
However, that’s it. These are the obvious differences between the two – and let’s face it, they’re not at all obvious unless you look closely. The S23 Ultra measures 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.8 mm, while the S22 Ultra measures 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9 mm.
With the Galaxy S23 and S23+ also adopting the split camera island look, next year’s top Samsung family members finally look like they’re actually part of the same family. For better or worse, that is, because they also look like a lot of A-series models. So this obviously helps solidify Samsung’s design language.
Then again, having a $1,200+ device share a design language with a $200 device from the same brand is… an interesting stylistic choice, let’s say. It certainly sacrifices high-end exclusivity to make it more recognizable overall. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess whether the trade-off is worth it.
Rumor has it that the Galaxy S23 series will be released a few weeks ahead of the S22 model, which means we could see its launch in January. At the rate of recent leaks, we’re sure to learn more about the S23 trio’s way before then.
