Huawei announced its new flagship Mate 50 Pro in China earlier this month. Well, today the Huawei Mate 50 Pro was announced globally as Huawei shared the details.
In terms of design and specifications, it is almost identical to the Chinese model. However, there are several differences. The variant doesn’t come with the China-exclusive satellite text messaging feature, at least for now.
Global Huawei P50 Pro model is announced with EMUI, and ToF 3D camera
Another difference is the software, because the Chinese model comes with the Hongmeng operating system, and this model comes with EMUI. It’s always a difference for Huawei devices, and it’s an expected difference.
Other than that, it’s the same phone. It’s funny, it brings back the notch. According to Huawei, it is necessary to house all the necessary sensors in it, including the ToF 3D camera.
It features ‘Space Ring Design’ and “rock-solid Kunlun Glass”
The Mate 50 Pro features what Huawei calls a “symmetrical space ring design.” It has a curved display with “rock-solid Kunlun glass” on top of the display. Huawei says the glass improves drop resistance by a factor of 10.
First 10-level adjustable physical aperture to the XMAGE camera
One of the most interesting aspects of the device is the Ultra Aperture XMAGE camera system on the back. You get the first-ever 10-stop adjustable physical aperture. We never see it on mobile. On top of that, Huawei’s freeform lenses are also part of the package, along with various other technologies that the company typically uses.
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC fuels this smartphone due to US sanctions, but its 4G version. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and comes in 256GB and 512GB storage options.
Included here is a 6.74-inch curved OLED display with a resolution of 2616 x 1212. The monitor offers a 120Hz refresh rate and high-frequency PWM dimming of up to 1,440. It also has a 300Hz touch sampling rate and P3 wide color gamut.
IP68 certified, and supports 66W charging
The phone is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, while EMUI 13 comes out of the box. Google services are not a part of the package, of course, but Huawei’s (HMS) comes pre-installed). A 4,700mAh battery sits on the inside of the phone, while 66W Huawei SuperCharge wired charging is also supported. The phone also supports 50W wireless charging (also Huawei SuperCharge).
A 50-megapixel main camera (ultra-aperture camera, RYYB f/1.4-f/4.0, OIS) by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2 aperture, macro) and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera (f/3.5 aperture, OIS).
On the front, you’ll find a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.4), a 3D ToF camera, and a gesture sensor.
