Apple said that more than 75 million tracks in its music library will provide lossless sound quality. Another surprise is that some AirPods headphones will be able to hear Dolby Atmos.

Lossless music means that users will be able to hear streaming music with better sound quality. Lossless concerts require more network traffic, so Apple Music will clearly remind users to choose to enable this feature. It is unclear whether the AirPods themselves are sufficient to hear the difference in sound quality.

Another important news tonight is that Apple Music officials announced that in the future users will be able to hear songs created by Dolby Atmos standards through its Spatial Audio technology. Users will be able to listen to selected albums with immersive 3D sound space on AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and Beats headphones with H1 or W1 chips.

Apple said that it is working with artists such as Ariana Grande and Kacey Musgraves to launch Dolby Atmos for the first time on Apple Music. In addition, they will continue to add new Dolby Atmos tracks and add new tracks that support this technology.

Currently, two headsets, AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, are required to experience spatial audio. Apple said that Dolby Atmos audio tracks will stream to any AirPods or Beats headphones with W1/H1 chips.

As shown in the screenshot above, albums that support spatial audio will have corresponding logos. Lossless audio uses the ALAC format. By going to Settings->Music->Audio Quality, and then selecting lossless high-resolution lossless, users can choose to listen in lossless mode.

These two new features will be launched in June and may be released together with iOS 14.6.
